Lifting of the ban on importation of cloven-hoofed stock from South Africa

Press Release

Lifting of the ban on importation of cloven-hoofed stock from South Africa

This serves to inform the members of the public and farming community that the Department of Veterinary Services has lifted the ban on importation of cloven-hoofed stock from South Africa with immediate effect.

However, there are additional conditions required to be fulfilled before any such imports can be effected into Botswana because of the prevailing threat f foot and mouth disease in South Africa. These include testing for FMD and 30 days quarantine in the country of origin.

In this regard, all issuing officers have been directed to advise farmers and the concerned people on the additional conditions required.

The office of the Director wishes to thank you all for the vigilance and cooperation displayed in preventing possible spillover of foot and mouth disease spread from the neighboring countries.

Thank you

Letlhogile G. Modise

Director of Veterinary Services
