RESTRICTIONS ON IMPORTATION OF FRUITFLY (Bactrocera dorsalis) HOST CROPS
The Ministry of Agriculture Development and Food Security (MoA) is informing all Traders and general public that Oriental Fruit Fly has been detected in Northern and Western Cape, Republic of South Africa. Traders and the general public are advised to be cautious when importing fruits and vegetables which are host of Asian Fruit Fly into Botswana.
NOTE THAT ALL IMPORT PERMITS FOR SOUTH AFRICA WG=HICH WERE ISSUED BEFORE THE 28TH JUNE 2019 HAVE BEEN REVOKED WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT AND THEREFORE NO LONGER VALID. TRADERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC ARE ADVICED TO APPLY FOR NEW PERMITS AND ARE KINDLY REQUESTED TO COOPERATE.
New conditions of importation of host crops of Bactrocera dorsals will be communicated to all traders and the general public when applying for the plant import permit. Therefore, all traders and the general public who wish to import Oriental Fruit Fly host crops from any country should meet the conditions laid down in the Plant Import Permit issued by the Division of Plant Protection. Anyone who does not comply with the conditions in the Botswana Plant Import Permit will not be allowed to import such commodities into the country.
