BONT TICK AND TICK BORNE DISEASES
Farmers and the general public are informed of the Bont tick and its related diseases such as heart water and demartophilosis (locally known as Senkobo) in livestock in Gumare, Tubu, Etsha and Nokaneng extension areas in the North West District. Farmers and the public are therefore requested to report any suspected affected animals to the nearest veterinary office.
Farmers are also advised that movement of animals out of affected areas is discouraged, and may only be allowed with permit after the animals have been dipped. Affected animals should not be moved until they have fully recovered. All animals that may have been from the affected area should be traced, treated and dipped. Movement of susceptible animals into the affected areas is also discouraged.
Farmers are encouraged to take advantage of the ongoing free treatments carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture Development and Food Security. Farmers are encouraged routinely dip their animals as part of a management practice.
