IMPORTATION OF ASIAN FRUIT FLY (BACTROCERA DORSALIS) HOST CROPS
The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security (MoA) is informing all traders and general public to be cautious when importing fruits and vegetables which are host of Asian Fruit Fly into Botswana. Fruit fly (Bactrocera Dorsalis) in Botswana is a pest of economic importance, very difficult to eradicate, control, threat to the nation and as such is still, under official control.
Therefore, all traders and the general public who wish to import Asian fruit fly host crops should meet the conditions laid down in the Plant Import Permit issued by the Division of Plant Protection. Anyone who does not comply with the conditions in the Botswana Plant Import Permit will not be allowed to enter the country. All stakeholders are advised that imports for host crops from South Africa should ONLY be sourced from Eastern and Western Cape.
NOTE THAT ALL IMPORTS PERMITS FOR SOUTH AFRICA WHICH WERE ISSUED BEFORE THE 5TH MARCH 2019HAVE BEEN REVOKED AND THEREFORE ARE NO LONGER VALID. TRADERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC ARE ADVISED TO APPLY FOR NEW PERMITS AND ARE KINDLY REQUESTED TO COOPERATE. This press release supersedes the one dated 11th March 2019.
