Description | All fresh animal products that are imported into Botswana must be accompanied by an Import Permit duly issued by the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS). This includes all fresh meat for human consumption both from domesticated (cattle, sheep, goat, donkey, chicken, turkey etc.) origins and wild game origins.This restriction is required to asceratin the suitablity of the product with regard to the end-use by identifying the source and insuring that the product is compatible with various standards prescribed in the relevant governing Act |
Comments | The Department of Animal Health Production issues forms for importation of certain animal products and these forms are a prerequisite to the veterinary import permit. Products include pork and pork products, poultry meat, milk and dairy products. Import permits issued by DVS for animal products are decentralised and can be issued at any veterinary district office where a state veterinary officer is available. For the importation a any exotic animal products that may not be on the data-base, the application may have to be referred to DVS HO Gaborone |
