Description | All Veterinary drugs being imported into Botswana, have to be accompanied by the relevant import permit issued by the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS). This requirement is to control the movement of various clinical drugs utilised in the treatment of animals and animal disorders in accordance with the restrictions/prohibitions as to type and use of the drug as laid down in the relevant Act |
Comments | Should the permit application be for vaccines and prescriptive drugs, the applicant must either be or have in their employ, a suitably qualified full time veterinarian or pharmacist or someone of similar stature. In dealing with over the counter drugs the minimum qualification required is a Certificate in Animal Health and Production. Import permits for veterinary drugs issued by DVS are decentralised and can be issued at any veterinary district office where a state veterinary officer is available if the product is on the data base. For the importation a any exotic drugs that may not be on the data-base the application will have to be referred to DVS HO Gaborone |
