TEMPORARY EXPORT OF LIVE CATTLE FOR SLAUGHT
The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security wishes to inform farmers and other members of the public that the Government of Botswana has allowed for export of live cattle for slaughter with immediate effect until 31st March 2020, subject to review.
Each farmer is allowed to export up to a maximum of 30 percent of his\her total herd. This dispensation is meant to assist farmers to avert possible loss of cattle due to severe impact of drought.
Application forms for export can be obtained from any office of the Department of Animal Production country wide. To apply for an export permit, farmers should provide the following:
Livestock census from the Botswana Animal Information and Traceability System (BAITS), will be used to confirm the number of livestock owned by each farmer.
